ITALIAN CINEMA HISTORY

Requirements:
A love of cinema

This course will feature casual evening screenings of Italian Cinema Classics twice a week. Films will be introduced with a brief lecture followed by an informal discussion.
Through this study of nine films, students will not only enjoy some of the greatest works of world cinema, but also gain a deeper insight into the culture and history of the country in which they are living and studying.

Additionally, the class is meant to provide context as well as inspiration to the work students are doing over the course of the five weeks in Italy.

From Pasolini’s dark postwar NeoRealism to the poetic 2013 Academy Award winning La Grande Bellezza, students will sample and discuss the dynamic art form that is Italian cinema.
